Worked example
Solve the system algebraically: y = x² + 3x - 2 and y = x + 6
Answer: (-4, 2) and (2, 8)
Why: Set the expressions for y equal: x² + 3x - 2 = x + 6. Move every term to one side: x² + 2x - 8 = (x + 4)(x - 2) = 0, so x = -4 or x = 2. Substituting into the line: y = 2 and y = 8.
