CCSS HSA-APR.D.7 Worksheets

Algebra 2 · Arithmetic with Polynomials & Rational Expressions

Understand that rational expressions form a system analogous to the rational numbers, closed under addition, subtraction, multiplication and division by a non-zero rational expression, and add, subtract, multiply and divide rational expressions.

Below are free printable worksheets that support HSA-APR.D.7. Print them as PDFs, or generate a fresh one. Every math answer key is computed in code, so it is never wrong.

What students learn

Understand that rational expressions form a system analogous to the rational numbers, closed under addition, subtraction, multiplication and division by a non-zero rational expression, and add, subtract, multiply and divide rational expressions.

Worked example
Simplify and state the domain restrictions: (x² - x - 12)/(x² - 16)
Answer: (x + 3)/(x + 4), x ≠ -4, x ≠ 4
Why: Factor: ((x - 4)(x + 3))/((x - 4)(x + 4)). Cancel the common factor (x - 4): (x + 3)/(x + 4). The domain excludes every value that made the ORIGINAL denominator zero (x ≠ -4, x ≠ 4), including the cancelled factor (a hole at x = 4).

Generated and checked in code, so it is correct.
