MA2-GM-01 is an outcome from the NESA Mathematics K-10 Syllabus (2022), taught in NSW schools. Because Stage 2 spans Years 3 and 4, the worksheets below come from Year 3 and Year 4. Print them as PDFs, or generate a fresh one. Every maths answer key is computed in code, so it is never wrong.

Teaching guide

What students learn

Uses grid maps and direction words to locate positions and follow routes.

How to teach it

Read a simple grid map, naming what is above, below, left and right of a landmark, giving the column then row of a square, and following a path (so many squares right and down).

Worked example
What is directly below the tree?
Answer: nothing

Generated and checked in code, so it is correct.

Watch out for

Left and right depend on the viewer, and grid squares are read across (column) then up or down (row), not the other way around.
