Reading Comprehension: The Romans in Britain

Read the passage carefully, then answer the questions in full sentences.

About two thousand years ago, a general named Julius Caesar led Roman soldiers across the sea to Britain. He fought two battles there, but he did not stay. He sailed home again, and Britain stayed free.

Nearly a hundred years later, a new Roman army landed. This time the soldiers did not leave. Their leader was the emperor Claudius, and his army took over most of Britain. The Romans built straight roads, new towns and a wall of stone across the north called Hadrian's Wall.

Not everyone welcomed Roman rule. A queen named Boudica was treated very unfairly by Roman officials, so she led a huge rebellion. Her warriors burned down three Roman towns before the Roman army finally defeated them.

The Romans ruled Britain for hundreds of years. When their soldiers finally left, they left behind roads, towns and walls that people can still visit today.
