Conversion Graphs & Gradient
Use a conversion graph's rate (gradient) to convert between units in either direction, or find the gradient of a conversion graph from two of its points and explain what it means.
- 1.A conversion graph is a straight line through the origin relating miles to km, where 1 mile = 1.6 km. Use the graph's rate to convert 32 miles to km.
- 2.A conversion graph is a straight line through the origin relating inches to cm, where 1 inch = 2.5 cm. Use the graph's rate to convert 29 inches to cm.
- 3.A conversion graph is a straight line through the origin relating gallons to litres, where 1 gallon = 4.5 litres. Use the graph's rate to convert 36 gallons to litres.
- 4.A conversion graph is a straight line through the origin relating kg to pounds (lb), where 1 kg = 2.2 pounds (lb). Use the graph's rate to convert 29 kg to pounds (lb).
- 5.Using the same conversion graph (1 gallon = 4.5 litres), convert 76.5 litres back to gallons, to 1 decimal place.
- 6.Using the same conversion graph (1 kg = 2.2 pounds (lb)), convert 85.8 pounds (lb) back to kg, to 1 decimal place.
- 7.Using the same conversion graph (1 pound (£) = 1.25 US dollars ($)), convert 40 US dollars ($) back to pounds (£), to 1 decimal place.
- 8.A conversion graph (inches on the x-axis, cm on the y-axis) passes through the points (7, 17.5) and (15, 37.5). Find the gradient of the line, and explain what it represents.
- 9.A conversion graph (gallons on the x-axis, litres on the y-axis) passes through the points (14, 63) and (33, 148.5). Find the gradient of the line, and explain what it represents.
- 10.A conversion graph (gallons on the x-axis, litres on the y-axis) passes through the points (9, 40.5) and (28, 126). Find the gradient of the line, and explain what it represents.
- 11.A conversion graph (inches on the x-axis, cm on the y-axis) passes through the points (7, 17.5) and (27, 67.5). Find the gradient of the line, and explain what it represents.
