Teaching guide

What students learn

Calculate how savings grow over time, distinguish deposits from withdrawals, and identify responsible borrowing, lending, and producers versus consumers.

How to teach it

Act out a toy bank: deposits go in, withdrawals come out, and the balance changes each time. Contrast a borrower who repays on time with one who never repays, and ask which one a friend would lend to again.

Worked example
Eli has $6 saved and adds $3 every week. How much will Eli have after 5 weeks?
Answer: $21
Why: $6 + 5 Γ— $3 = $6 + $15 = $21

Generated and checked in code, so it is correct.

Watch out for

Mixing up deposit and withdrawal directions, and adding a withdrawal instead of subtracting it from the balance.
