Algebra 1 · Seeing Structure in Expressions

Interpret expressions that represent a quantity in context, reading parts such as terms, factors, and coefficients, and viewing complicated parts as a single entity, as in a growth factor raised to a power.

Below are free printable worksheets that support HSA-SSE.A.1. Print them as PDFs, or generate a fresh one. Every math answer key is computed in code, so it is never wrong.

What students learn

Interpret expressions that represent a quantity in context, reading parts such as terms, factors, and coefficients, and viewing complicated parts as a single entity, as in a growth factor raised to a power.

Worked example
A town's population is 500 people and grows by 10% each year. Find the exact value after 2 years.
Answer: 605 people
Why: Growth/decay factor per year = 1110. After 2 years: 500 x (11/10)2(11/10)^{2} = 500 x 11211^{2}/10210^{2} = 500 x 121100 = 605 (exact, since 500 was chosen as 5 x 10210^{2}).

Generated and checked in code, so it is correct.
