Teaching guide

What students learn

Create equations in two or more variables to represent relationships between quantities, and graph them on coordinate axes with labels and scales.

Worked example
Find the equation of the straight line with gradient -2 that passes through the point (8, -12). Give your answer in the form y = mx + c.
Answer: y = -2x + 4
Why: Substitute the gradient and point into y = mx + c: -12 = -2(8) + c, so -12 = -16 + c. Rearranging: c = -12 - -16 = 4. The equation is y = -2x + 4.

Generated and checked in code, so it is correct.
