Teaching guide

What students learn

Put the parts of a day in order, such as morning, lunchtime, afternoon and night, and link them to familiar events.

How to teach it

Teach the hour hand first, then half past and quarter past/to, then count by fives for five-minute times, and finally to the minute. Link analog to digital.

Worked example
1:00
Answer: 1:00

Generated and checked in code, so it is correct.

Watch out for

Reading the minute hand as the hour, and muddling 'quarter to' with 'quarter past'.
